The last time I did the Whole Life Challenge it was…a positive disaster. Positive in that I learned a LOT about what I ate and what’s in food you buy (crap, mainly) and how hard it is to just eat natural foods. Disaster in that it mentally F’d with me and the moment the challenge my diet pendulum swung so far the other way I still haven’t recovered. I said I wasn’t going to do it again. But guess what. I am.
This time I’m actually doing it as one of the associates at my gym so I don’t have to pay to participate. That’s nice. This time, I’m not going to let the game control me, but rather USE the game as a way to get back to the good habits I’d started last summer – good habits that were delivering some real results!
The WLC begins with a preliminary workout that you will do again at the end of the 8 week challenge to see how much your performance has improved. This time, you can create your own workout and this is what our CrossFit box came up with:
10 Min. doing As Many Rounds As Possible of:
- 25 Double Unders
- 8 Hang Squat Cleans
- 15 Sit Ups
Here are some more fun videos I’ve created in the past few weeks centered around the 2013 WLC Spring Throwdown.
2012 WLC Winner Interview:
Notes on CrossFit Surf City‘s extras perks and tweaked rules. Namely, allowing whey protein and providing custom workout modifications and meal programming for four different goals: fat loss, muscle gain, performance, lifestyle. Not everyone wants to focus on fat loss and so they’re workouts and meals shouldn’t look the same as someone who is focusing on fat loss. Coach Campo, the owner and my boss, is providing this extra service to WLC participants because he believes that we can get more out of the WLC than just logging points and trying to win a game. We can use it as a focused effort to reach our real goals. This video is long.
