CrossFit Update – 3 Month Mark
Last Monday was judgement measurement day. It’s been nearly 3 months of CrossFit and I wasn’t super optimistic about the changes in my body composition. Don’t get me wrong, I definitely notice improvements but you never know how that’s going to translate to the measuring tape/scale/fat pincher skin fold caliper.
Body Comp:
My perceived results in this area have been sufficient enough for me to feel encouraged. My arms look and feel more toned, as does my abdomen. My husband says my legs look tighter and trimmer. So is that confirmed by the numbers? Let’s see.
Quality control: Each of these measurement sets were taken by my awesome coach, Melissa, who knows this stuff so well that I am confident she does it the same way each time and her measurements are accurate. With that said, I still don’t pretend to understand how my shoulders shrink over an inch in two months? Two inches on my waist in three? That seems more drastic than it actually is, I reckon.
It looks like, after one month of CrossFit, there were a few areas that I actually grew (chest, bicep, thigh etc.) before they went down. Perhaps in my first month I gained muscle but my body was still holding on to a layer of fat? In 3 months time, I’m definitely showing a trend toward leaning and toning, even though I haven’t lost much overall weight (maybe 4 lbs?). I wonder if increasing my running in September has a lot to do with it.
Performance:
After the WOD on Monday I sauntered over to the pull up bar. I have a habit of attempting these after each workout to see if I can do it. AND I DID IT! A dead-hang pull up. BAM! I was a little shocked. I wanted to do another one to get a picture but, after the workout it looked like I only had one in me. Aww well. I DID A FREAKIN PULL UP! My CrossFit goals are slowly being realized.
I haven’t been able to measure it yet but I do believe that I’ve been getting faster with CrossFit training. While I’m not really approaching Nike Women’s Half this Sunday as a goal race, but more of a training run, I do hope to blow my previous NWM time away (2:43:23). My fastest half so far is 2:17 so I’m pretty confident I’ll get a race PR but not sure about overall PR.
FOOD STUFF:
First of all, I just want to say that my food experiments for the WLC have taken a turn for the muffin. I caved and bought almond flour/meal to bake with and this was my first batch.
The recipe needs work. Survey says it’s not sweet enough. Back to the baking pan. Will report back when success has been achieved.
Second of all, my box – CrossFit Surf City – is having a contest this week in partnership with our WLC Sponsor, Slater’s 50/50. Basically, the burger design photo that gets the most likes wins a $50 gift card to Slater’s. Here is my creation:
